Fangs, Fur and Fey Descend on Tulsa
Conestoga 12 Adds Some Bite

Fangs, Fur and Fey, the largest online community of published urban, young adult and contemporary fantasy and paranormal romance writers, teams up with the Conestoga Sci-fi/Fantasy Convention to present this year’s “Con Within a Con”, commencing July 25th at the Tulsa Radisson Hotel and Conference Center. Fans of vamps, ghouls, werewolves, demons, faeries and a legion of other fantasy creatures will be in heaven…or hell, depending.

The online community’s founders (and New York Times bestselling authors) Melissa Marr and Jeaniene Frost, along with Caitlin Kittredge (Night Life) and Mark Del Franco (Unquiet Dreams) will be joined by Special Guests Rachel Vater of Folio Literary Management and Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Literary Agency and a slew of authors representing some of the best fiction this innovative genre has to offer. In addition, the Guest of Honor at Conestoga 12 will be the wildly popular Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series.

The Fangs, Fur and Fey “mini-con” at Conestoga 12 promises to be the biggest urban fantasy event for fans and aspiring writers in the region. Among activities and panels planned are author speed-dating (interrogate authors one-on-one!), Thrust and Parry Theater (action scenes play out live before your very eyes), readings, signings, and discussions of world building, creatures, dark fantasy and the ever-elusive comic relief.

For information on the larger Conestoga 12 convention, the Fangs, Fur and Fey event schedule and authors scheduled to attend visit the online information site.

From the back of the book:

Bobbie Faye Sumrall knows that a day without disaster is a day in someone else’s life. Criminals have kidnapped her good-for-nothing brother and are demanding her Contraband Queen tiara – the only thing of her mama’s she inherited – as ransom. So Bobbie Faye has to outwit the police, organized crime, former boyfriends, and a hostage she never intended to take (but who turns out to be damn sexy!), in order to rescue her brother, keep custody of her niece, and get back in time to take her place as Queen in the Lake Charles Contraband Festival (think Mardi Gras, but with more drinking and pirates).

Luckily, Bobbie Faye knows how to handle guns, outsmart angry mama bears, drive a speedboat, and get her self out of – and into – almost every kind of trouble. If only a pesky state police detective (who also happens to be a pissed-off ex-boyfriend) would stay out of her way…

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. Bobbie Faye is a great character. I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. One of the things I really liked about this book was it took off from the very beginning. I tend to get frustrated at books that have a long lead-in to the action. Bobbie Faye’s Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day isn’t like that at all. Another thing that I really enjoyed about Bobbie Faye was the commitment to her family. While the world sees her as a walking disaster (and she is), she is also an extremely loyal sister and protective aunt. Book #2, Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels, is out now. I suggest picking both up. Also, I really want a shirt like Bobbie Faye’s – “Shuck Me, Suck Me, Eat Me Raw” It would make me laugh every time I wear it!

From the back of the book:

There’s no putting out this fire…

Zach Thomas risks his life battling flames every day. But since sexy EMT Brooke O’Brian joined the crew, he can’t resist playing with fire. Brooke is feisty, a little uptight…and sexy as hell. And as Zach soon discovers, she’s definitely hot stuff between the sheets. Still, every firefighter knows that the hotter the blaze, the faster the action’s over…

After the whirlwind ride Zach’s been taking her on, Brook is ready to do anything for this man – in and out of bed! But she knows footloose and fancy-free Zach doesn’t do commitment. So she plans to build up a five-alarm fire between them. The kind he won’t ever want to put out…

First, I just have to say that the cover on the Blaze is HOT!!! And the story is too. From the second they meet Zach and Brooke have amazing chemistry. This story also has heart and not just hormones. Both characters are used to a solitary past, and have to work to overcome it. The dynamic of Zach and the other firefighters is great. They seem like a real family teasing each other and constantly being in each others business. Next month (August), Aidan, Zach’s best friend, will get his turn. Make sure to get both Flashpoint and Flashback.

From the back of the book:

He catches her eye across the dining room – a handsome stranger who stands out among the lewd noblemen and bawdy painted women. But their worlds are about to collide in a way Roselyn Longworth could never have imagined. For before the night is out, she will be auctioned off to the highest bidder…and Kyle Bardwell will lead her from one kind of hell to another. Yet from the moment her wins her, Kyle treats Rose with a gentleness she hasn’t know since a family scandal destroyed her reputation. And when she finally learns what is really driving Kyle, it’s too late. for Rose has fallen for the man who knows her most intimate secrets. Now he has stunned her with a proposal of marriage – the first step in a seduction that will demand nothing less than her complete surrender…

Rose Longworth is a woman with a lot of trouble. First, her family is in ruin due to her brother’s criminal activities. Second, she engages in an affair where she had thought she was in love, but wasn’t. Third, Rose has been placed for auction and the highest bidder will get to do whatever he wants with her. I really felt sorry for Rose. Most of her problems were not of her making. Kyle Bradford is a man that doesn’t really belong. He was born in a coal mining town and has risen to be a man of means. Not quite a common man and definitely not an aristocrat. He sees Rose and wants her, but knows that she is too good for him. The passion that evolves between these two is very sweet. Kyle wants to take care of Rose and not let the turmoil in her life hurt her anymore than in has to. Through the story they learn to overcome the past and focus on the future. This book is a recommended read for anyone looking for a sweet love story that starts on rocky ground.

(This is the third book in the Rothwell series. You do not have to read the first two books to understand what is going on in the story.)

From the back of the book:

You know you’re hard up when you have to buy a date…

But Annie Davis’s big family reunion is looming, and she needs a stand-in man fast or she’ll never hear the end of it. Any gorgeous guy will do. Her solution? The drop-dead-sexy man at the charity bachelor auction. His good looks and blue-collar background make him perfect for her! Or is he?

Sean Murphy has a bit of a surprise for Annie. Not only is he not blue-collar, he’s actually a sophisticated European entrepreneur, one who’s made pleasuring women an art form. And he wants to permanently pleasure Annie! But Sean knows that if she discovers his secret, their wickedly delicious liaison will be over. Lucky for both of them, he’s learned enough tricks to keep Annie distracted for a long, long time…

This is the second book in The Wrong Bed: Again and Again. The first book is Slow Hands. This book has two very lovable characters. Annie is the ultimate girl next door. She was raised by an extremely overprotective family and longs for a life on her own terms. After moving away from home and starting her own child care facility those dreams are coming true. The only dark spot in her life is she doesn’t have a man to take home for her parent’s anniversary party. Enter Sean Murphy. This man is sex personified. He is charming, kind, and has an Irish accent. The chemistry between Annie and Sean is hot, but there is also a tenderness between the two of them. I enjoyed the way he takes care of her and makes sure that she is happy. I really recommend reading this book.

From the back of the book:

For delizioso paste, go to Dante’s. For a sumptuous cordon bleu, go to Vivi’s. To really heat things up…get the together.

Since his wife’s untimely death, Anthony Dante has thrown himself into his cooking, making his restaurant, Dante’s, a Brooklyn institution. So far, his biggest problem has been keeping his retired hockey-star brother out of the kitchen. But now, a mademoiselle is invading his turf. And you know what they say: Too many chefs spoil the neighborhood…

Stunning Vivi Robitaille can’t wait to showcase her taste but-tingling recipes in her brand-new bistro, Vivi’s. Her only problem is an arrogant Italian chef across the street who actually thinks he’s competition. The table is set for a culinary war – until things start getting spicy outside of the kitchen…

This book was fun to read. I enjoyed the love/hate relationship between Anthony and Vivi. Their verbal sparing over butter or shortening will have you laughing and then fanning yourself at the level chemistry between them. I have read the other NY Blades books and love “seeing” some familiar faces. This book is different form the others, since it doesn’t have a hockey player as a main character. But, the story of the dueling chefs is one you can’t miss. Vivi is as passionate as any French woman, and Anthony is a stereo-typical Italian male, and when these two get together you better hide the knives. For more information about the other NY Blades books go to www.nyblades.com.
