Bobbie Faye’s Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day

Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day: A Novel by Toni McGee Causey

From the back of the book:

Bobbie Faye Sumrall knows that a day without disaster is a day in someone else’s life. Criminals have kidnapped her good-for-nothing brother and are demanding her Contraband Queen tiara – the only thing of her mama’s she inherited – as ransom. So Bobbie Faye has to outwit the police, organized crime, former boyfriends, and a hostage she never intended to take (but who turns out to be damn sexy!), in order to rescue her brother, keep custody of her niece, and get back in time to take her place as Queen in the Lake Charles Contraband Festival (think Mardi Gras, but with more drinking and pirates).

Luckily, Bobbie Faye knows how to handle guns, outsmart angry mama bears, drive a speedboat, and get her self out of – and into – almost every kind of trouble. If only a pesky state police detective (who also happens to be a pissed-off ex-boyfriend) would stay out of her way…

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. Bobbie Faye is a great character. I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. One of the things I really liked about this book was it took off from the very beginning. I tend to get frustrated at books that have a long lead-in to the action. Bobbie Faye’s Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day isn’t like that at all. Another thing that I really enjoyed about Bobbie Faye was the commitment to her family. While the world sees her as a walking disaster (and she is), she is also an extremely loyal sister and protective aunt. Book #2, Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels, is out now. I suggest picking both up. Also, I really want a shirt like Bobbie Faye’s – “Shuck Me, Suck Me, Eat Me Raw” It would make me laugh every time I wear it!

Squeeze Play by Kate Angell

I love books with sports heroes, especially baseball.

Risk Kincaid is a pro baseball player who has just won the world series. He should be out partying, but he heads out to his hometown and his rebound girl.

Jacy Grayson has lived in Frostproof her whole life. She owns her own coffee shop, Jacy’s Java. Whevenever a relationship crashes and burns she calls Risk. He comes to town, they make love, and he leaves.

This situation has always worked, but now Risk wants more. He wants everything.

This book had one big flaw. Too much going on. There were two secondary stories going on along with Risk and Jacy. It took a lot away from the main story line. I would rather have had three separate books. (Well, really two I didn’t like one of the other couples at all) There are two other books in this series – Curveball and Strike Zone (Love Spell).

Do you have a favorite book where there is an athlete as the main character??

ROGUE – On sale now

Here is the book back cover blurb from the Rachel Vincent’s website.

Okay, so cats don t always land on their feet.

I know that better than most. Since rejoining the Pride, I ve made big decisions and even bigger mistakes: the kind paid for with innocent lives. As the first and only female enforcer, I have plenty to prove to my father, the Pride, and myself. And with murdered toms turning up in our territory, I m working harder than ever, though I always find the energy for a little after-hours recreation with Marc, my partner both on- and off-duty.

But not all of my mistakes are behind me. We re beginning to suspect that the dead are connected to a rash of missing human women and that they can all be laid at my feet–two or four, take your pick. And one horrible indiscretion may yet cost me more than I can bear…

Sounds great – I can’t wait to read it!!!

I won!!!

I have been visiting Jaye’s Blahg for Adopt-a-Vampire month since the beginning of March. Over the weekend I won an ARC of Jeri Smith-Ready’s new book Wicked Game. I can’t wait to read it. One of the best things (to me, lol) is reading a book before others do. I know that sounds silly, but oh well.

On Jeri’s website it says this about Wicked Game:

First in a new urban fantasy series about a cadre of vampire DJs and the con artist trying to save their “lives.””

The book sounds different than anything else I have read and I can’t wait!!!!

I don’t want to read it….

Posted on March 21, 2008. Filed under: books, Randomness | Tags: , |

Have you ever read a book that you just aren’t into? I have… I just read For a Few Demons More by Kim Harrison. The book itself was great, but I just couldn’t get into it. I had read the first four in the series at least a year ago, but waited to read this one till The Outlaw Demon Wails came out. I started reading it on Tuesday and didn’t finish it till Thursday afternoon. For me that is a long time to read one book. I usually read one new book day. (more…)
