Bobbie Faye’s Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day

Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day: A Novel by Toni McGee Causey

From the back of the book:

Bobbie Faye Sumrall knows that a day without disaster is a day in someone else’s life. Criminals have kidnapped her good-for-nothing brother and are demanding her Contraband Queen tiara – the only thing of her mama’s she inherited – as ransom. So Bobbie Faye has to outwit the police, organized crime, former boyfriends, and a hostage she never intended to take (but who turns out to be damn sexy!), in order to rescue her brother, keep custody of her niece, and get back in time to take her place as Queen in the Lake Charles Contraband Festival (think Mardi Gras, but with more drinking and pirates).

Luckily, Bobbie Faye knows how to handle guns, outsmart angry mama bears, drive a speedboat, and get her self out of – and into – almost every kind of trouble. If only a pesky state police detective (who also happens to be a pissed-off ex-boyfriend) would stay out of her way…

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. Bobbie Faye is a great character. I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. One of the things I really liked about this book was it took off from the very beginning. I tend to get frustrated at books that have a long lead-in to the action. Bobbie Faye’s Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day isn’t like that at all. Another thing that I really enjoyed about Bobbie Faye was the commitment to her family. While the world sees her as a walking disaster (and she is), she is also an extremely loyal sister and protective aunt. Book #2, Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels, is out now. I suggest picking both up. Also, I really want a shirt like Bobbie Faye’s – “Shuck Me, Suck Me, Eat Me Raw” It would make me laugh every time I wear it!

The Road to Hell (Hell on Earth, Book 2) by Jackie Kessler

This is the second book in the Hell on Earth series. It ROCKED!

Jesse is now completely mortal and living with her man, Paul. But Hell won’t leave her alone. Demons are showing up wherever she is….especially the bathroom. Jesse doesn’t know what they want, but she is gonna have to find out. Paul’s soul is on the line and Jesse won’t let anything happen to her White Knight.

I am in love with this world. Everything is unique and very detailed. The world that Jackie Kessler has created is hot, evil, fun, and did I mention hot.

On Jackie Kessler’s website there is a great FAQ section. Anyone who reads these books should check it out!!!

Hell’s Belles (Hell On Earth, Book 1) by Jackie Kessler

Jezebel is a succubus on the run. Hell has been turned upside down and there is a bounty on her head. So what is a girl to do? Turn human and work at a strip club in NYC. But, falling in love was definitely not in her plans until she meets Paul Hamilton. With the hounds of Hell on her tail, love is the last thing she should be thinking about, but the only thing on her mind.

I loved this book!

This book skips around between the present and the past. It confused me at first, but then I got the hang on it. Jackie Kessler has invented a very detailed and fascinating world. I have already started on the second book (The Road to Hell (Hell on Earth, Book 2)) and can’t wait for the third (Hotter Than Hell (Hell on Earth, Book 3)).

(There is also a novella in Eternal Lover – along with stories by Richelle Mead, Lynsay Sands, and Hannah Howell)

Phantom Pleasures, by Julie Leto

I just finished this book and WOW. I wasn’t sure if I would like it after reading the back cover, but it was fantabulous. The book is about two very special people from two very different times.

Alexa Chandler is a woman on a mission. Her mission is to make her own mark in the company left to her after the tragic death of her father. She wants to be successful in her own right and has let that goal consume her life. Once a dreamer in search of a castle with a prince, she now only longs for business success. Until she inherits the deed to a castle on a “haunted” island from her father.

Damon Forsyth lived in London during the 1700s. The son of a noble man he lived a life of privilege, until a man he thought was a friend ran off with his sister. After charging into the home of Dragon, the man who had his sister, he is trapped by a curse that lasts 300 years before Alexa breaks it.

This story is filled with backstabbing, kidnapping, and mystery. With the help of Cat, Alexa’s best friend, and Ben, the son of a professor, the history of what happened to Damon and his family is unraveled.

This story is sexy, compelling, and Phantabulous!! (sorry – I know that is corny, but I had to do it!) I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Fast & Loose

Fast & Loose, by Elizabeth Beverly.

(First, a rant about book covers. I have bought a couple of books lately that only have a partial front cover to reveal a peek-a-boo beneath. Like Fast & Loose. I hate reading books like this. It is (to me) uncomfortable and makes the book feel funny in my hands. Ok, enough about that….)

Fast & Loose is a fun, sexy book! Set is the weeks before the Kentucky Derby the story involves a horse trainer, Cole “King Cole” Early, and an introvert artist named Lulu Flannery.

Lulu rents out her house for the duration of the Derby to earn extra money for her Home Depot habit. Cole needs a place to stay after his horse earns a spot in the derby. Even though they have met, neither knows that it is her house that he rents. With a reputation that follows him everywhere Cole is intrigued by the woman who doesn’t care and seems to distrust him because the it. He is also dying to find out is the shy Lulu is as fiery as the flames she uses to make her artwork.

Thrown into the mix is Lulu’s best friend, a money-hungry woman who sets her sites on Cole and the man who loves her no matter what.
