Not working….

My new site isn’t working and I am bummed. I worked on it till 4am last night and all day today. Does anyone know how to forward the contents of a blog without forwarding the theme? This is not the new book girl look, but the new address is working. Hopefully I will have it figured out tonight.

Slow Hands…a review and contest

Slow Hands by Leslie Kelly

From Amazon:

This is Maddy Turner’s lucky day. The civilized society girl just bid on sexy rogue Jake Wallace at a charity bachelor auction—and won! But Maddy knows Jake’s dirty little secret. And it should keep her from trying out her new boy toy. Too bad she can’t stop herself from indulging in raw, quite uncivilized sex all the same….

Jake Wallace is utterly bewitched by Maddy— and utterly bewildered. How can this tantalizing woman melt so rapturously under his ministrations one moment, then turn into a haughty queen the next? He’s determined to get to the bottom of Maddy’s agenda. One slow, delicious inch at a time…

This is the first book in a new Harlequin Blaze series called The Wrong Bed: Again and Again. This book lives up to the Blaze name. It is hot, hot, hot. I love the misunderstanding between Maddy and Jake. The fact that it wasn’t drawn out was a definite plus. The characters are very realistic and the dialogue isn’t forced. The whole heiress and blue-collar guy thing has been done a lot, by Leslie Kelly made it fresh and interesting with the whole bachelor auction aspect. I really loved this story and was very drawn to the characters. Jake is a definite favorite, if I needed rescuing I would want him to administer the CPR!:)

The next book in the series, Heated Rush, is out next month.

Want a copy of Slow Hands for yourself?? In the book, Jake, is an paramedic. To enter the contest just leave a comment with your favorite civil servant (fireman, EMT, police, mailman..) Contest ends at 12pm on Sunday night! I myself am partial to the firemen:)

Because Your Vampire Said So

Because Your Vampire Said So (Broken Heart, Oklahoma, Book 3) by Michele Bardsley

Patsy Donahue is a hairstylist/vampire/mom. She doesn’t have time for all of the political crap that goes with being one of the undead in Broken Heart, Oklahoma. But now with rogue shape-shifters, scary monsters, and all the ancients gathered together. Patsy is going to have to use all of her instincts too keep her and her son from becoming one of the really dead.

I love the Broken Heart series. I am counting down the days until book 4 comes out. Patsy is hilarious, snarky, and a great mom. Gabriel is extremely HOT!! The thing I liked the most about this book was the way Patsy felt about her son. Although, Wilson is in trouble and has a major attitude problem he is always Patsy’s first priority. It makes the story feel more real. Patsy was written the way a real mother would react to the circumstances. A lot of books, when there are children, they are kind of an afterthought.

Stray (Werecats, Book 1) by Rachel Vincent

This book was great. I was a little intimidated by the length. In past experience long books are sometimes hard to get into and overwhelming in detail. Luckily that is not the case with this book.

Faythe is a were-cat. One of the eight remaining female were-cats. She has managed to live the last 5 years in relative independence (if you don’t count her daddy’s spies) on a college campus in Texas. When a stray cat comes to her campus and attacks her she is forced to return home. The disappearance of two other tabbies leads to her being on lock down in her own home with Marc the man she left 5 years ago.

Marc isn’t ready to let Faythe forget what they once were and could be again. He will do anything to protect her from the stray that is threatening the female were-cats.

This book is a new world. It is the first were-cat book that I have read and I loved it. Rachel Vincent has created a character that is tough and vulnerable at the same time.

Go to the book girl bookstore and order this book today!!

Get a Clue

Get A Clue by Jill Shalvis

Breanne Mooreland has been left at the alter, again. Deciding to go on her honeymoon by herself, she finds herself in a lodge in the Sierra mountains with a mystery man. Ex-vice cop Cooper Scott is on his first vacation in a long time and the last thing he wanted was an insane woman watching him in the shower.

The attraction between these two is intense. Add in a really crazy staff, a dead body, and a freak snowstorm and these two are in for quite a week.

This book was good, but I think it could have been better. I loved the couple and their sexual tension, but the dead body and ensuing mystery is something I could have done without. It seemed extremely secondary to the love story between Breanne and Cooper.

ROGUE – On sale now

Posted on April 2, 2008. Filed under: books, Uncategorized | Tags: |

Here is the book back cover blurb from the Rachel Vincent’s website.

Okay, so cats don t always land on their feet.

I know that better than most. Since rejoining the Pride, I ve made big decisions and even bigger mistakes: the kind paid for with innocent lives. As the first and only female enforcer, I have plenty to prove to my father, the Pride, and myself. And with murdered toms turning up in our territory, I m working harder than ever, though I always find the energy for a little after-hours recreation with Marc, my partner both on- and off-duty.

But not all of my mistakes are behind me. We re beginning to suspect that the dead are connected to a rash of missing human women and that they can all be laid at my feet–two or four, take your pick. And one horrible indiscretion may yet cost me more than I can bear…

Sounds great – I can’t wait to read it!!!

Dead over Heels

Posted on March 25, 2008. Filed under: Paranormal, Series, Uncategorized | Tags: , , , |

dead-over-heels.jpgReading is my favorite part of going to the gym. I am not kidding. I can read at least half a book during my hour on the elliptical and it makes the time fly by. Yesterday I read Dead over Heels by MaryJanice Davidson (LOVE HER!!!!). This is a collection of three novellas. All three are part of continuing series and are just a little taste of what we love about the characters.

First is a Betsy novella. I love Betsy. She is the most kick ass character, but she is also very sensitive. Undead and Wed: A Honeymoon Story is a look at the vampire queens honeymoon with her king, Eric. My favorite part was the shoe shopping. A girl can never have enough shoes and no one knows this better than Betsy. The only bad thing I can say about this novella is that it made me more impatient for Undead and Unworthy.
