Heated Rush

Heated Rush (Harlequin Blaze) by Leslie Kelly

From the back of the book:

You know you’re hard up when you have to buy a date…

But Annie Davis’s big family reunion is looming, and she needs a stand-in man fast or she’ll never hear the end of it. Any gorgeous guy will do. Her solution? The drop-dead-sexy man at the charity bachelor auction. His good looks and blue-collar background make him perfect for her! Or is he?

Sean Murphy has a bit of a surprise for Annie. Not only is he not blue-collar, he’s actually a sophisticated European entrepreneur, one who’s made pleasuring women an art form. And he wants to permanently pleasure Annie! But Sean knows that if she discovers his secret, their wickedly delicious liaison will be over. Lucky for both of them, he’s learned enough tricks to keep Annie distracted for a long, long time…

This is the second book in The Wrong Bed: Again and Again. The first book is Slow Hands. This book has two very lovable characters. Annie is the ultimate girl next door. She was raised by an extremely overprotective family and longs for a life on her own terms. After moving away from home and starting her own child care facility those dreams are coming true. The only dark spot in her life is she doesn’t have a man to take home for her parent’s anniversary party. Enter Sean Murphy. This man is sex personified. He is charming, kind, and has an Irish accent. The chemistry between Annie and Sean is hot, but there is also a tenderness between the two of them. I enjoyed the way he takes care of her and makes sure that she is happy. I really recommend reading this book.

Not Another Bad Date

Posted on June 23, 2008. Filed under: Romance | Tags: , , |

Not Another Bad Date (Avon Romance) by Rachel Gibson

From the back of the book:

What does a gal have to do to get a good date in this town?

Adele Harris can’t even begin to answer that question. She’s had so many lousy dates that she’s sure she’s cursed. Why else would every man she goes out with suddenly act like he’s lost his mind – and his manners? Adele thought life couldn’t get any more confusing…until she learns the marriage of her seemingly Miss Perfect sister is on the rocks. So she goes back to their hometown to give her a shoulder to cry on, only to run smack into Zach Zemaitis…the one who got away.

Texans love God, family, and football, though not always in that order

Zach, a former pro star, knows all about football. As for the other two, well, he’s doing his best. But when Adele comes charging back into his life – still all lush curves and beautiful, big blue eyes – he wonders if his best is good enough. After all, he did her wrong. Can a woman with her track record ever really believe that he’s serious this time…or is he destined to be another bad date?

This is the forth book a series about 4 author friends. Adele is the author of fantasy books, and she believes she is cursed. Well, she doesn’t really believe it, but she knows that something is definitely wrong with her love life. After 3 years without a good date, Adele is ready to call it quits.  Her sister calls with news of impending divorce and asks Adele to come and help her adjust. Returning home isn’t on Adele’s list of things to do, but she goes anyway. Running into an ex-boyfriend was just something she wasn’t counting on. I really liked this book. With a side story of Zach’s mean late wife trying to get into heaven, the story definitely has some funny moments. The chemistry between Zach and Adele is hot. They seem to catch fire when around each other even though Adele is sure that she wants nothing to do with Zach.

Fantasyland by Michele Bardsley

From the back of the book:

Take a hedonistic holiday….

There’s only one place to go for an erotic vacation: Fantasyland. Just off the Florida Keys, the chain of exotically themed islands offers the perfect setting for guests to act out their wildest desires.

Looking for you own pirate of the Caribbean? Then check out the island where bawdy buccaneers roam the shores in search of booty.

Do you like to watch? An exhibitionist isle caters to guests who like to let their hair down, shed their inhibitions, and offer a seductive feast for the eyes.

There;s the island where you can be treated like a princess – or a servant. Let a man sweep you off your feet….before he grovels at them, that is. Or give yourself, body and soul, to a man whose only goal is to bring you exquisite pleasure, at the place and time of his choosing.

And blindfolds are the dress code on an isle where every partner is a surprise, and you can become anyone you want to be…with anyone you want.

Some resorts promise you the vacation of your dreams. Fantasyland delivers.

This book is hot, hot, hot. There are 5 novellas each with a different kink. My favorite was “Pirate’s Pursuit”. This is very different form Michele Bardsley’s Broken Heart Vampires. If you don’t like erotic romance then don’t read this book. Each story is well done, and not overly graphic. There is some vulgar language, but it adds to the excitement of the story. Go here to read an excerpt from “Pirate’s Pursuit”.

One Foot in the Grave

One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2) by Jeaniene Frost

From Amazon:

You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won’t let her get away again.

First I just have to say I LOVE Bones! He is my favorite vampire. This book definitely lived up to the first one. I was a little worried since the first book was so great. I wasn’t let down.  I did find it interesting that there was a four year gap between book #1 and #2. That is something you don’t see a lot in series. The character Cat has grown up a lot in between the books. She has learned to be her own person and deal with what she has been given in life. I especially liked seeing the bonds she had forged with the other agents she worked with. Bones is still the same. Even when not the focus in Cat’s life anymore, he is still with her in many ways. When they get back together the sparks really fly. I thought that this was a great follow-up to book #1. I can’t wait for more Cat and Bones. Book #3, At Grave’s End, is scheduled for December 30th, 2008.

OH – I forgot. There is one scene in the book that will knock your socks off. It is hot, hot, hot!!!

How To Knit A Wild Bikini

Posted on June 15, 2008. Filed under: Romance | Tags: , , |

How to Knit a Wild Bikini by Christie Ridgway

From Amazon:
The beachside knitting shop Malibu & Ewe is the perfect place for L.A.’s hip young crowd to enjoy colorful yarn and intimate conversation. For personal chef Nikki Carmichael, it could be the softest place to land if her new job falls through. Working for magazine writer Jay Buchanan has come with some strange conditions—like pretending to be his girlfriend. As for Jay, he finds himself drawn to the kitchen, where he’s intrigued by his sexy cook’s ability to withstand the heat between them. And now he thinks it’s time to turn up the flames.

This is the first book in a new trilogy by Christie Ridgway. Nikki’s had a hard life. Her mother died at an early age and her father wasn’t particularly warm towards her. Now the only career she has ever wanted is being compromised by a bum knee. The job working for Jay Buchanan come at just the right time. The chemistry between these two is Hot, Hot, Hot. Even though Jay has given up women for the year he finds himself drawn to Nikki and wanting to get past the brick wall she keeps around herself. I loved the atmosphere in the book. The laid back southern California vibe was great. And Cassandra, the owner of the Malibu and Ewe, is a very interesting character. I can’t wait to read the next two books in the series. This is a great read for lounging out by the pool or relaxing in on the beach (or just hanging out inside with the AC, which might come in handy when the book gets hot).

Staked by J. F. Lewis

From Amazon:

Eric’s got issues. He has short-term and long-term memory problems; he can’t remember who he ate for dinner yesterday, much less how he became a vampire in the first place. His best friend, Roger, is souring on the strip club he and Eric own together. And his girlfriend, Tabitha, keeps pressuring him to turn her so she can join him in undeath. It’s almost enough to put a Vlad off his appetite. Almost.

Eric tries to solve one problem, only to create another: he turns Tabitha into a vampire, but finds that once he does, his desire for her fades — and her younger sister, Rachel, sure is cute. And when he kills a werewolf in self-defense, things really get out of hand. Now a pack of born-again lycanthropes is out for holy retribution, while Tabitha and Rachel have their own agendas — which may or may not include helping Eric stay in one piece.

All Eric wants to do is run his s.trip club, drink a little blood, and be left alone. Instead, he must survive car crashes, enchanted bullets, sunlight, sex magic, and werewolves on ice — not to mention his own nasty temper and forgetfulness.

Because being undead isn’t easy, but it sure beats the alternative.

I love Eric. He is so messed up, but lovable. This book moved very fast. I really liked how the point of view varied from Eric to Tabitha, Eric’s girlfriend. The changing p.o.v really kept the pace up. The vampires in this book have their own hierarchy. Eric is a Vlad, the highest tier of the hierarchy. Tabitha becomes a Master with is the level under a Vlad. Usually in vampire books there is a “master vampire” and then the other vampires. I was really intrigued by the whole concept of the levels. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, which I read is to be published sometime in 2009. And, I definitely need to find my own “Welcome To The Void” shirt.

Slow Hands…a review and contest

Posted on June 6, 2008. Filed under: contest, Uncategorized | Tags: , |

Slow Hands by Leslie Kelly

From Amazon:

This is Maddy Turner’s lucky day. The civilized society girl just bid on sexy rogue Jake Wallace at a charity bachelor auction—and won! But Maddy knows Jake’s dirty little secret. And it should keep her from trying out her new boy toy. Too bad she can’t stop herself from indulging in raw, quite uncivilized sex all the same….

Jake Wallace is utterly bewitched by Maddy— and utterly bewildered. How can this tantalizing woman melt so rapturously under his ministrations one moment, then turn into a haughty queen the next? He’s determined to get to the bottom of Maddy’s agenda. One slow, delicious inch at a time…

This is the first book in a new Harlequin Blaze series called The Wrong Bed: Again and Again. This book lives up to the Blaze name. It is hot, hot, hot. I love the misunderstanding between Maddy and Jake. The fact that it wasn’t drawn out was a definite plus. The characters are very realistic and the dialogue isn’t forced. The whole heiress and blue-collar guy thing has been done a lot, by Leslie Kelly made it fresh and interesting with the whole bachelor auction aspect. I really loved this story and was very drawn to the characters. Jake is a definite favorite, if I needed rescuing I would want him to administer the CPR!:)

The next book in the series, Heated Rush, is out next month.

Want a copy of Slow Hands for yourself?? In the book, Jake, is an paramedic. To enter the contest just leave a comment with your favorite civil servant (fireman, EMT, police, mailman..) Contest ends at 12pm on Sunday night! I myself am partial to the firemen:)

The Brass Bed

Posted on June 5, 2008. Filed under: Paranormal | Tags: , , |

The Brass Bed by Jennifer Stevenson

From Amazon:

THE CURSE: Satisfy one hundred women or be trapped in a brass bed forever
Lord Randall was a lousy lover in 1811, so his magician-mistress turned him into a sex demon. Lucky for him, his bed fell into Clay’s hands.

THE CON: Sex therapy for women on an antique brass “treatment bed”
Clay has the perfect scam going, until that pesky, foxy fraud investigator Jewel comes sniffing around. Lucky for him, she has a soft spot for hunky con men.

THE CHOICE: Sex demon or sex fraudster?
Jewel is Randy’s hundredth woman. Now he says he’s her personal sex slave, and her case against the con artist is dissolving in a hail of hormones. Lucky for her, she’s a tough cop with a lusty libido.

This is the first book in a new series by Jennifer Stevenson. Set in the Chicago, Jewell Heiss (love the name) is not your average woman. I had trouble in the beginning connecting to the character. She is kinky with a capital K. She treats men like dogs and wants to be left alone. But by the end of the book I felt like I understood her a little better and cannot wait to see what happens to her next. I loved Clay and tolerated Randy. I think that reading the other books will flesh these characters out a lot more now that all the ground work is done.

Here is a book trailer for the book I found on Youtube!

Wilde Thing

Wilde Thing by Janelle Denison

First, I want to say how much I love the Wilde series. I have read three of the stories and can’t wait to finish the series.

Wilde Thing is about oldest brother Steve Wilde. Having been burned in love before he likes the carefree way he conducts his affairs. Then he meets Liz Adams.

Liz Adams has a disastrous marriage to a “bad boy” in her past and won’t ever fall for one again. But there is something about Steve that she can’t stop thinking about.

When Liz’s cousin goes missing she turns to Steve to help her find him. Phone sex, fetish parties, and fantasies pave the way for a love that is more than either of them were prepared for.

This was a very sexy story. Liz and Steve are electric. But this story is also very romantic. Both Steve and Liz have been hurt before in love and have to work through those issues before that can be happy, either together or apart. I think this story taps into one of those universal truths that you have to love yourself before you can love someone else. Liz has to get over several choices she has made in the past before she and Steve can have a “happily ever after”.

I Brake For Bad Boys

Posted on May 27, 2008. Filed under: Romance | Tags: , , |

I Brake for Bad Boys by Lori Foster, Janelle Denison, Shannon McKenna

Drive Me Wild by Lori Foster – Erica Lee is always in control, both in business and love. After a dare with two best friends ends with them happily in love, Erica decides it is her turn. Ian Conrad is who she sets her eyes on. He is a strong man, also used to getting his own way. These two burn up the sheets and find out that being in control isn’t what love is about at all…..

Something Wilde by Janelle Denison – Eric Wilde is a ladies man, who wants Jill Richardson more than he has ever wanted anyone else. Jill has a hard and fast rule about mixing business with pleasure, but Eric is wild enough to make her change her mind. This is the first story in the “Wilde” series by Janelle Denison. I am working my way through this series and I have definitely fallen in love with the Wilde men.

Touch Me by Shannon McKenna – Tess Langley is a massage therapist who isn’t interested in anything more than opening her own spa. She hides behind a low-maintenance look and clothes that hide her figure. But that hasn’t stoped Jonah Markham from fantasizing about the woman that makes him feel so good. He comes up with a plan to spend time alone with Tess hoping that a weekend together can turn into so much more.

If He Only Knew……

If He Only Knew… (Harlequin Blaze) by Debi Rawlins

Sara Wells is an southern heiress who has every thing she could ever want, except privacy. So she decides to takes a year off to enjoy a “normal” life.  Although she has her law degree she goes to work as a temp in a NY law firm.

Cody Shea is a partner in the firm where Sara is working. He is intrigued by the southern belle, but knows that she is off limits, both as an employee and someone of a lower social class. He follows her back home to Atlanta hoping to get her out of his system, but somethings don’t work out the way we plan.

This was a cute story. The mincommunications and misrepresentations throughout made it very enjoyable to read. Cody Shea comes across like a man with a very big ego and Sara comes across a little deceiving. I think it is these characteristics that make the story work. If he was all things gentlemanly and she was a perfect lady it would not have gripped the reader and romantic in me.

Rules For Being A Mistress

Rules For Being A Mistress (Zebra Historical Romance) by Tamara Lejeune

Sir Benedict Wayborn is in need of a wife. She needs to be proper, young, and respectable. After traveling from London to Bath Sir Benedicts plans meet an unexpected end.

Miss Cosima Vaughn is an Irish lass who just wants to take care of her mother and younger sister. When these two meet the sparks fly, but Sir Benedict Wayborn doesn’t offer marriage. He proposes that Cosy become his mistress. Outraged at this she sets out to teach him a lesson. But the lesson that is taught in the end is the lesson of love.

I really enjoyed this book, but didn’t particularly care for Sir Bededict Wayborn. His overbearing ways and the way he acted as if above everyone else really annoyed me. But I don’t think you have to like the characters to enjoy the story. I liked that the unlovable character could find love and be happy.

Succubus in the City

Succubus in the City by Nina Harper

Lily is a succubus working for Satan and as an accessory editor for a high-fashion magazine. Living in New York City gives her everything a demon could want. There are fabulous restaurants, great fashion, and the three best friends a girl can have, but she feels like she is missing something. When a sexy PI, Nathan Coleman, knocks on her door, Lily can’t help but wonder what is would be like to fall in love for real.

Nathan finds Lily in the process of locating a missing person. Immediately he is drawn to her and sets out to get to know her.

This book is interesting. There is a plot, but it goes no where. The end of the book leads directly into the sequel without tying up any of the loose ends. Also, there is an overwhelming amount of detail about clothes, food, and where she goes. If you are into fashion then you will probably find this interesting. I would suggest waiting until the sequel is out and read them at the same time, and hopefully the story will have an ending.
