Vampires Are Forever

Vampires Are Forever (Argeneau Vampires, Book 8) by Lynsay Sands

From Back of Book:

Vampires Don’t Exist…Do They?

Inez Urso is beginning to have her doubts. Her business associate Thomas Argeneau has some interesting traits, like an allergic reaction to the sun, excellent night vision, and not mush of an appetite for food. And to top it all off, he just tried to bite her neck…happy to experience more, despite her determination not to mix business with pleasure.

He’s Been Waiting Forever For A Woman Like Her…

Well, if not forever, at least two hundred years. Inez is the most beautiful woman he’s seen in centuries. Those luscious lips, seductive curves, and her elegant neck…he just couldn’t resist the temptation of one little bite. Now Thomas will do anything to convince her that only an immortal like him can satisfy her all night long…

This is the 8th book in the Argeneau series. This is probably my least favorite book of the series. Thomas was in several of the other books as a secondary character and I loved him. I was excited to see how he would find his lifemate and to find out what he really was like. While these things were explained the book didn’t go too in depth with Thomas’ life. I felt that the author didn’t give Thomas a chance to expand from a secondary character (even though he is the main focus of this book). Inez is also a pretty flat character. Her past isn’t really discussed and her immediate acceptance of what Thomas is was unrealistic. The book is more about finding Marguerite. Also, it seemed that the book was mainly a bunch of running around from country to country. The story just didn’t seem to go anywhere. I hope that book nine, Vampire, Interrupted, is much better.

One Foot in the Grave

One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2) by Jeaniene Frost

From Amazon:

You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won’t let her get away again.

First I just have to say I LOVE Bones! He is my favorite vampire. This book definitely lived up to the first one. I was a little worried since the first book was so great. I wasn’t let down.  I did find it interesting that there was a four year gap between book #1 and #2. That is something you don’t see a lot in series. The character Cat has grown up a lot in between the books. She has learned to be her own person and deal with what she has been given in life. I especially liked seeing the bonds she had forged with the other agents she worked with. Bones is still the same. Even when not the focus in Cat’s life anymore, he is still with her in many ways. When they get back together the sparks really fly. I thought that this was a great follow-up to book #1. I can’t wait for more Cat and Bones. Book #3, At Grave’s End, is scheduled for December 30th, 2008.

OH – I forgot. There is one scene in the book that will knock your socks off. It is hot, hot, hot!!!

Staked by J. F. Lewis

From Amazon:

Eric’s got issues. He has short-term and long-term memory problems; he can’t remember who he ate for dinner yesterday, much less how he became a vampire in the first place. His best friend, Roger, is souring on the strip club he and Eric own together. And his girlfriend, Tabitha, keeps pressuring him to turn her so she can join him in undeath. It’s almost enough to put a Vlad off his appetite. Almost.

Eric tries to solve one problem, only to create another: he turns Tabitha into a vampire, but finds that once he does, his desire for her fades — and her younger sister, Rachel, sure is cute. And when he kills a werewolf in self-defense, things really get out of hand. Now a pack of born-again lycanthropes is out for holy retribution, while Tabitha and Rachel have their own agendas — which may or may not include helping Eric stay in one piece.

All Eric wants to do is run his s.trip club, drink a little blood, and be left alone. Instead, he must survive car crashes, enchanted bullets, sunlight, sex magic, and werewolves on ice — not to mention his own nasty temper and forgetfulness.

Because being undead isn’t easy, but it sure beats the alternative.

I love Eric. He is so messed up, but lovable. This book moved very fast. I really liked how the point of view varied from Eric to Tabitha, Eric’s girlfriend. The changing p.o.v really kept the pace up. The vampires in this book have their own hierarchy. Eric is a Vlad, the highest tier of the hierarchy. Tabitha becomes a Master with is the level under a Vlad. Usually in vampire books there is a “master vampire” and then the other vampires. I was really intrigued by the whole concept of the levels. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, which I read is to be published sometime in 2009. And, I definitely need to find my own “Welcome To The Void” shirt.

From Dead To Worse

From Dead to Worse (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 8) by Charlaine Harris

A lot has happened to Sookie Stackhouse. She has survived explosions, were attacks, and betrayal by a loved one. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina there is a shift in the supernatural community of Louisiana. Sookie will have to face more super politics and fighting, while praying that she makes it through alive.

I loved this book. A lot happens to Sookie and we see her mature a little more. In this story she must come to terms with how she feels about some of the men in her life (Quinn, Bill, and Eric). That is all I am going to say…I really don’t want to give any of the good stuff away. Anyone who has read the Sookie books will love this one too. The only thing that is bad about it is the wait for the next one. (And of course, True Blood on HBO this fall.)

Wicked Game

Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready

From Jeri Smith-Ready’s website:

Late-night radio you can sink your teeth into

Recovering con artist Ciara Griffin is trying to live the straight life, even if it means finding a (shudder!) real job. She takes an internship at a local radio station, whose late-night time-warp format features 1940s blues, 60s psychedelia, 80s Goth, and more, all with an uncannily authentic flair. Ciara soon discovers how the DJs maintain their cred: they’re vampires, stuck forever in the eras in which they were turned.

Ciara’s first instinct, as always, is to cut and run. But communications giant Skywave wants to buy WMMP and turn it into just another hit-playing clone. Without the station—and the link it provides to their original Life Times—the vampires would “fade,” becoming little more than mindless ghosts of the past. Suddenly a routine corporate takeover becomes a matter of life and un-death.

To boost ratings and save the lives of her strange new friends, Ciara re-brands the station as “WVMP, the Lifeblood of Rock ’n’ Roll.” In the ultimate con, she hides the DJs’ vampire nature in plain sight, disguising the bloody truth as a marketing gimmick. WVMP becomes the hottest thing around—next to Ciara’s complicated affair with grunge vamp Shane McAllister. But the “gimmick” enrages a posse of ancient and powerful vampires who aren’t so eager to be brought into the light. Soon the stakes are higher-and the perils graver-than any con game Ciara’s ever played…

This book is great. It has an incredibly unique take on the vampire genre. With the killer soundtrack (the play list is at the front of the book) and hot vampires, this book sizzles.

WVMP radio has it’s own site now!! Visit for DJ bios, music lists, and other stuff related to WVMP and Wicked Game!!

50 Ways To Hex Your Lover

50 Ways to Hex Your Lover by Linda Wisdom

To say theirs is a love/hate relationship is an understatement. Jazz Tremaine is a witch who has been around for a long time. Nick Gregory is a vampire that has been around longer. These two have been on-again, off-again for over 300 years.

Vampires are missing and Nick is searching for the reason. He knows that the only one with enough power to help him is Jazz.

I will admit that this book left me a little confused at first. I needed more of the background story to understand the relationship between Nick and Jazz. The story in this book is great. I loved all of the characters. I especially loved, Fluff and Puff, a pair of rabid bunny slippers. The chemistry between Nick and Jazz is electric and the way they worked together to solve the crime was realistic. (realistic if there were witches and vampires who worked together.) I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I hope that I can come to understand the complex relationship between Nick and Jazz better.

Drop Dead Gorgeous

Posted on April 6, 2008. Filed under: Paranormal, Series | Tags: , , |

Drop Dead Gorgeous by Kimberly Raye

I picked this up at Target thinking that it was a steamy cowboy book. Usually I am not into cowboys, but this cover cowboy was HOT! I learned a lesson in judging a book by the cover.

Dillon Cash was once a geek and not just a little geek, but the biggest geek in Skull Creek, Texas. Now he is a walking orgasm. Women are drawn to him and want one thing. SEX. What brought about this change? Dillon had recently been turned into a Vampire.

Meg Sweeny grew up a tomboy and was just one of the guys. She had tried everything to change the small towns impression of her. She dressed sexy, drove a flashy car, and didn’t talk sports. Yet, nobody saw her as anything other than “manhandling meg”.

Now that he best friend Dillon has become a sex god, Meg wants to know how and make the change herself.

This book was sizzling. There was a lot of sex, but emotion to back it up. I was rooting for the couple almost from the very beginning. There was only one thing that bothered me about this book – there was some back story that I assume came from a previous book, and it confused me at first to understand how Dillon had become a vampire.

Dead over Heels

Posted on March 25, 2008. Filed under: Paranormal, Series, Uncategorized | Tags: , , , |

dead-over-heels.jpgReading is my favorite part of going to the gym. I am not kidding. I can read at least half a book during my hour on the elliptical and it makes the time fly by. Yesterday I read Dead over Heels by MaryJanice Davidson (LOVE HER!!!!). This is a collection of three novellas. All three are part of continuing series and are just a little taste of what we love about the characters.

First is a Betsy novella. I love Betsy. She is the most kick ass character, but she is also very sensitive. Undead and Wed: A Honeymoon Story is a look at the vampire queens honeymoon with her king, Eric. My favorite part was the shoe shopping. A girl can never have enough shoes and no one knows this better than Betsy. The only bad thing I can say about this novella is that it made me more impatient for Undead and Unworthy.
